Scarlett WIP by Anna-Mariaa Scarlett WIP by Anna-Mariaa
Hi everyone!

Since the result of my last poll showed that most of you guys wanted to see a WIP. Those of you who rather want to see the finished drawing, just close your eyes ;-).

What I did so far:

-outlines (I usually use a ruler to measure the proportions, some things I do freehand)
-as you can see, I don't like working and finishing one part of the drawing first. I get annoyed with an area pretty quickly so I usually switch from one part to another. Because of that, my drawings only look finish when they actually are.
-when i was done with the outlines I did the skin with a 0.5 2B pencil. After priming with the pencil, I smudged it with a tissue. That's where we stand now.

What I'm gonna do next:

-finishing the skin tones, I'm gonna add more pencil layers plus I'm going to erase some highlights with a kneadable eraser.

Tell me if you want another WIP of this drawing. Also, feel free to ask questions if you have any!

Love, Anna

Wow! This is amazing. I stumbled on your gallery and I love all of it. I've been trying to get the photo realism style with graphite that you have, but I'm no where near this level. What do you use to blend the shading so well?

Thank you very much dear! for watching too! well first of all, it's crucial that you use bristol paper. then, never touch the paper with your finger unless you want stains that you will never ever get rid of. ^^ smudge with a tissue.

What do you use to draw? I see the mechanical pencils, but what lead? I got the 0.5 2B from your description. Any other lead?

I'm sorry I didn't write that in the description. I use 0.9 4B and 0.35 HB.

I meant workable fixative while it's a work in progress, you know so you don't ruin (smudge) what you have done so far.

can you explain priming with a pencil, please? maybe the word "priming's just throwing me off :/

I'm sorry english is not my native language. I meant that I apply a first layer of pencil strokes and then I smudge that. Then I have something to work with and can erase things from this area or make some parts darker. Did this clear it up?^^

Oh my, yes, thank you that helps so much ^_^ one other question, if you don't mind, what's the initial pencil you start with when beginning a drawing? Iusually use 2h, because that's the lightest shade I have.

I'm glad! actually for this drawing I almost only used a HB mechanical pencil (0.35mm).

I am too!! wow, that's mostly HB, the ranges of the value are amazing :o. Hmm, I'm drawing from a reference picture right now, haven't gotten terribly far into it, but it's a portrait with a necessary background:/Any tips you might recommend?
